Which Slackline Is Right for Me?
There is a wide choice of slacklines – and that is a good thing. Depending on use, experience and goals, you need different equipment. We help you make the right choice.
The most important questions first
Before you buy a slackline, answer three questions:
- Where do I want to slackline? Park, garden, mountains, over water?
- What do I want to do? Walk relaxed, jump, cover long distances?
- How experienced am I? Beginner, intermediate or pro?
Width matters – 25 mm, 35 mm or 50 mm?
50 mm – wide, stable, beginner-friendly
A 50 mm webbing is wide, gives you more surface to stand on and forgives mistakes. Ideal for getting started in the park or garden. Most beginner sets come with 50 mm webbing.
Downside: Unsuitable for longer lines or longlines – the webbing tips over sideways.
For whom: children, absolute beginners, tricklines up to 15 m
35 mm – the all-rounder
35 mm webbing is the ideal compromise. Narrow enough for a good feel, wide enough for stability. With a good ratchet, you can tension lines up to 40–45 m – that reaches well into longline territory.
The webbing does not tip over sideways, has good bounce and is very beginner-friendly.
For whom: beginners who want to progress quickly, anyone looking for an all-rounder
25 mm – for pros and long lines
Narrow, light, highly specialised. 25 mm webbing is the material of choice for longlines, highlines and waterlines. It requires more technique when tensioning and more experience on the line.
For whom: intermediates and pros, longline, highline, waterline
Our 25 mm slackline webbing:
- Sigma Impact – soft with good grip, lots of stretch
- Sigma Impact Low Stretch – ideal for longlines
- Sigma ReBL – light and strong for highlines
- Y.a.W. 2.0 – ultralight for travel and backup
- AirTrack – soft and squishy for getting started
Length – short or long?
| Length | Difficulty | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| 5–12 m | Very easy | First attempts, children |
| 12–25 m | Easy | Beginners, park |
| 25–50 m | Medium | Intermediates |
| 50 m+ | Hard | Longline pros |
Rule of thumb: As a beginner, start with 8–12 m. The longer the line, the more it swings and the harder it is to balance.
