Germany's Longest Highline – 500 m at the Wendelstein
Germany's Longest Highline – 500 m at the Wendelstein
In 2020, Lukas Irmler and his team achieved a milestone in German slackline history: the longest highline ever rigged on German soil – 500 metres between the Wendelstein and the Kesselwand in the Bavarian Pre-Alps at an altitude of 1,700 m.
What is particularly impressive: the project was no spontaneous outing. After a long bureaucratic marathon and months of permit procedures, Lukas was finally able in 2020 – the year in which travel and appearances were largely cancelled – to realise this long-cherished dream at home.
With almost the same team as eight years earlier at the first highline at the Wendelstein, the circle was closed. Friedi Kühne, Julian Mittermaier and Valentin Rapp – all there, all now world-famous slackliners and world record holders.
BR Fernsehen – "Heimat der Rekorde"
On 22 February 2021 at 9 pm, the report was broadcast on the Bavarian TV channel BR Fernsehen in the series "Heimat der Rekorde" (Home of Records) – already the broadcaster's third report on extraordinary slackline projects in Bavaria.
The report with Lukas Irmler is available in the BR Mediathek (in German):

- 🏔️ 2020 – Longest highline in Germany: 500 m at the Wendelstein
- 🌍 2021 – Longest highline in the world: 2,130 m in Lapland, Sweden

The Wendelstein – a special spot
For the Bavarian slackline community, the Wendelstein is more than just a mountain – it is where it all began for many. The first highline was rigged here back in 2012, only 70 m long at the time. In 2020 it grew to seven times that length.
"This is simply a very beautiful spot here at the Wendelstein. We always love coming back here, where we grew up and where the fascination of highlining began for some of us." – Valentin Rapp
