It was autumn 2005, an evening around a campfire at a campsite in Mayen. What began as a climbing meet – organized by me and my friend Enrico for the then flourishing climbing community on climbing.de – was to change my life forever.

Climbing during the day, campfire in the evening. And then came Commander. A username in the forum. He brought something with him that most of us only knew from the margins of American climbing magazines: a slackline. Actually just a common tension belt, stretched between two trees. But what fun! Four days of climbing and slacklining in the evening – when I drove home, I was completely hooked.

Back in Germany, I told everyone about it. "This is the next big thing!" I researched and found a label by Heinz Zack in Austria – also a climber. But why wasn't it available in Germany? This question wouldn't let me go.

So I founded the first German slackline forum. What happened next surprised me: The forum quickly became a meeting point for the growing scene. Slacklining was no longer a side note – it became a phenomenon.

At some point, I thought: If there's a forum, why not sell too? I contacted a rope manufacturer and inquired. They had no capacity for small orders – but there would be a discount for bulk purchases. I ordered five sets. Three days later, all were sold.

That's how the forum became a shop. The shop became slackliner.de.

What still makes me proud today: We were the first slackline company to consistently include tree protection.
It became uncomfortable - for everyone. Especially in Germany.

There was a worldwide outcry in the scene at the time – it costs money, it's unnecessary, they said. We did it anyway because we thought it was right.

We were right. Closures and bans followed in German cities and other countries. The topic of nature conservation in slacklining is now present worldwide. We have shaped this discussion from the beginning.

Many competitors have come and gone. The big hype is over – but slacklining is like climbing: it continues, it stays, it grows. And we continue. Now with a new shop, new products, and the same passion as back then around the campfire.
